Tips for managing your money

With everyone trying to save their pennies during an economic downturn, its always nice to have a few more ideas on how to manage the money you have better and to stretch it just a little bit further!
There are a few good ways to keep track of the bills that you pay. One thing that you can do is pay bills on the first of the month and the fifteenth of the month. This divides the payments up and keeping them in two piles may help keep you from paying a bill late because the date crept up on you. Another good way to keep track of the bills is to place the return portion in the envelope and then write the due date in the upper left hand corner and keep the envelopes filed chronologically so that you can see when bills are coming due. Of course another good way to take care of bills is take advantage of automatic bill pay whenever you can and you also save on stamps!
Another easy way for money to slip through your fingers is to not keep a careful accounting of the cash that you have. It helps to just NOT keep extra cash around because cash always seems to get spent easily. Another solution is to keep envelopes with the purpose for that cash written on each envelope. When the cash is gone you are done. This way is a great visual way to really see how easily your money is gone.
Above everything else, its a good idea to learn to be content with what you have. Dont spend money you dont have for things that you dont need. Sometimes writing down every penny of what you spend for an entire month can give you a very clear picture of where your money is going and what is really important.
