Clean and Green
In a world full of chemical cleaners for every part of our homes from ceiling to floor, it is easy to forget that there is another way. A way that is easier on the planet, your wallet, and your body. Being green isnt just for hippies any more, so why not try some ways to save the planet and save some money?
Cleaning in the kitchen used to be a virtual cocktail of poisonous chemicals. I used to use an all purpose cleaner for the surfaces, one more for glass surfaces and yet another cleaner for the range and oven. Now, I can use three simple ingredients to get my kitchen to sparkle. The things I need in my cleaning bucket are fresh lemons, vinegar, and baking soda.
Use a cloth soaked in undiluted distilled white vinegar to clean surfaces. The acidity in vinegar is so high, that it kills mold and germs.
Use cup baking soda, 1 tbsp of lemon juice and just enough vinegar to make a paste to scour your oven and cooking range. It will clean, scrub and give a fresh lemon scent.
Use a solution of water and vinegar to clean glass.
It is obvious how these techniques will save the environment, and money. Just think! You wont have 4 or 5 bottles to send to a landfill, no harmful fumes, and these materials are cheap!
If you throw a bottle of liquid washing detergent into the bucket of supplies the uses are endless.
Clean your microwave by putting c of vinegar a squeeze of lemon juice, and a tbsp of liquid detergent into a bowl. Heat the bowl in the microwave until the solution boils. The steam from the bowl will break up the food particles and make it easier to clean.
Clean your floors with a solution of 3 drops liquid detergent, 1/3 part vinegar, 1/3 part alcohol, and 1/3 part water. Just spray and mop.
Pretty much any chemical cleaner you can buy in the store today, can be replaced with a natural alternative. Doing things this way doesnt take any longer to do, and will save you money. Your children will also be able to eat food off of a freshly cleaned countertop!
